- [first lines]
- Lionel: Funny things, peanuts.
- Jean: What?
- Lionel: I said peanuts are funny things. I mean, peanuts and things on sticks aren't usually in one's main stream of consciousness, are they?
- Jean: No, I have to admit that.
- Lionel: But have people in for drinks, and out they come.
- Jean: You're in a very philosophical mood.
- Jean: [after Lionel gave an uncharacteristically upbeat toast at Rocky and Madge's post-wedding reception] Now call me suspicious, Lionel, but you can't have had a change of heart that quickly.
- Lionel: I had a phone call from father's doctor today. The old fool will be lucky if he lasts another year.
- Jean: [Touches him] Oh I'm sorry. Did you tell him?
- Lionel: Hardly an opportune moment.
- Jean: Will you tell him?
- Lionel: No. What do they say? "One crowded hour of glorious life is worth an age without a name". That's the way they see it anyway. Let them have their crowded hour. Every minute of it.
