Well done TV thriller!

Warning: Spoilers
This is an episode of, THE BARBARA STANYWCK SHOW. This anthology series ran for 36 episodes during 1960-61.

This one stars only 3 actors, Babs, Michael Ansara and the always sultry, Julie London.

Babs is a wealthy type who has just tossed her husband out for stepping out on her. She is going to England for 6 months to chill out before she starts on the divorce. She is busy closing up the house and letting everyone know she will be away for awhile.

She calls in Ansara, the butler, driver, etc and hands him a wad of cash. "Here is a couple month's pay. It will help you find another job while I'm away." Babs then reminds Ansara they leave at 7 the next morning for the airport and dismisses him. She then pours herself a brandy and sits down.

Several minutes later the doorbell rings. She calls Ansara but he does not answer, so Babs gets the door herself. Standing outside is Miss London. She needs to talk to Stanwyck about something important.

Babs lets her in and asks what could be so important. London tells Stanwyck that it was her who had been stepping out with Bab's hubby. Fork over some cash or London will spread the story and ruin Bab's reputation.

Stanwyck laughs and says "Go ahead! I'm going to divorce the swine anyway. You will not get a dime from me!" London responds by pulling a large revolver out of her purse and pointing it at Stanwyck. Stanwyck calls again for Ansara who does put in an appearance this time.

But instead of helping Stanwyck, he grabs London and the two do a bit of tongue wrestling before they both laugh at Babs.

We now find out that Ansara and London are husband and wife. Ansara knows that Stanwyck keeps a hefty bundle of cash in a bedroom wall safe. They want it.

Stanwyck asks what's to stop them from killing her after they get the cash. London smiles and says. " Nothing at all." Ansara grabs London saying, "That was not part of the plan. We just tie her up and call someone after we get over the border." London gives Ansara a dirty look and responds, " We well never get away if we let her live." Ansara again says, "We agreed on no killing." Stanwyck, seeing the discord between the two, calls out to London. "What if I promise not to say anything and throw in all my furs and jewels. Just leave me tied up and I'll give the police a false story".

London likes the sound of the furs etc. and agrees. Stanwyck leads London to her fur closet and hands London a mink. London is all smiles as she dons the coat and does a twirl around the room with Ansara.

Stanwyck uses the moment to bolt to her soon to be ex-husband's den. She grabs a shotgun off the rack and quickly loads it. She then stands pointing the barrels at the door.

London and Ansara realize Stanwyck is gone. The pair enter the den where they find themselves on the wrong end of a 12 gauge.

"Drop the pistol or I'll fire!" Growls Babs. London answers with another nasty look, then goes for her revolver. Ansara grabs her and says, "No!" The two struggle for a minute and then a shot rings out. London topples to the floor while Ansara stands there, gun in hand.

The police are called.

This is a nifty little episode, which is much better than I make it sound. A real nice turn here by London as a nasty.

The director was TV vet Don Medford. Medford worked from the early 50's till the late 80's.

The story was by Bob and Wanda Duncan. They likewise were TV vets.

The d of p was Maury Gertsman. His work includes, STRANGE CONFESSION, BLONDE ALIBI, SINGAPORE, ROGUE'S REGIMENT, JOHNNY STOOL PIGEON, ONE WAY STREET, THE GLASS WEB and INSIDE THE MAFIA.

Two exquisite nemesis

I enjoyed this episode so much, because it stars among my favourite actresses of all time. Barbara Stanwyck and Julie London, in a very nasty role, a character whom she is not used to at all; The face to face between the two of them is outstanding to watch and listen. Two woman arguing about the same man, we have already seen that, for sure, but this drama becomes a true thriller beyond the midway of the episode. But I admit that if you remove the two lead female characters, this story would not have the same taste.
