It's like a roach motel...men check in but they never check out.

Most of the villains on "Barnaby Jones" are guys. So, it's nice to see one where there are multiple villains...and they're all women!

When the story begins, a real estate man has been trying to make contact with Jason Turner. However, every sort of lead the women at Turner's inn give him turn out to be diversions. The hope is he'll just give up and go home, apparently. But the agent is a bit dim...and he confronts the women and is soon 'disappeared'. As a result, Barnaby Jones and Jedediah get involved as they try to find this man. However, in the process it become apparent that OTHER men have disappeared and the trails all lead to the women running that place!

This is a very good episode of "Barnaby Jones" and that is a HUGE relief, as many of the later episodes of season six and many of the first episodes of season seven were just terrible....by far the worst shows of the series. Good writing and an interesting story make this one worth your time.

THE SISTERS WILL GET YOU ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!

10 Stars. Hold on tight!

An excellent episode, and quite a surprise with the villains all being women! Great writing on the part of Norman Jolley, who wrote over forty episodes for the series, and some of the best ones at that. Jolley earlier wrote for WAGON TRAIN.

Barnaby and JR are searching for a realtor --who just disappeared in thin air -- the trail leading to a cozy countryside inn run by Alice Hirson and her two nieces. Hirson (best known for ELLEN and DALLAS) is a standout as the cold-blooded killer of many other gentlemen interested in the property. Hillarie Thompson is especially good as Hirson's calculating niece. What a team they make.

A terrific story, somewhat in the tradition of COLUMBO, that will keep your attention right until the end. After all these years, I still remember this story, which could have easily been a two part episode. These women are dangerous!

Beautifully filmed in Agoura Hills, CA, north of Los Angeles, at the Lodge of Malibou Lake. The historic lodge, built in the 1930s, now caters to weddings and events, truly a star attraction in southern California. A wise choice for filming this episode.

SEASON 7 EPISODE 5 remastered color CBS dvd box set. Only Barnaby appears on the cover, not Betty or JR? 6 dvd set. 2018 release.

Too convoluted

Warning: Spoilers
Preposterous that those big, strong, strapping men were done in with one swack of those tiny girl's shovels. The episodes that don't really include Barnaby seem to be stinkers, and this is one of those. Barnaby is absent the entire episode until the end when he walks into the office claiming that the traffic was bumper to bumper on the San Diego Freeway, after which he jumps into action and shows up just in time for JR to disarm the villainess and wrap the story up. Why are so many murders happening in that mountain town of Colverton anyways, must be something in that lake's water that seems to criminalize the entire town's population!

One of the dumbest episodes of this show

Warning: Spoilers
JR is sent to investigate a missing real estate agent out of town, while Barnaby and Betty remain at the home office. This is one of the late season episodes where Buddy Ebsen was not appearing regularly. Characters were introduced with no payoff, such as the dead real-estate agent's wife and girlfriend. JR was attracted to a sweet blond, who turned out to be the psycho killer. A real head scratcher.
