This is the first episode in which Batman and Robin are seen buckling their Bat-belts before riding in the Batmobile. Batman gives a lecture to Robin on driver safety (This was supposedly in response to complaints from viewers who said that Batman set a bad example by not using a seatbelt).
ABC interrupted the original airing of this episode for a news bulletin. NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong (a little more than three years before he became the first man to walk on the Moon) and David Scott were having problems with the controls on the Gemini 8 spacecraft and a near-fatal situation ensued. Thousands of viewer phone calls swamped the ABC switchboards, not out of concern for the astronauts, but to complain about the interruption of the "Batman" telecast.
Julie Newmar designed and personally sewed her Catwoman jumpsuits. The famous gold "platter" necklace, seen in every appearance by Catwoman (including appearances with Lee Merriwether and Eartha Kitt in the role) has no character significance; it was merely a fashion statement.
This episode marks the only on-camera appearance of Commissioner Gordon's secretary, Bonnie. The actress who played the role was uncredited.
While Bruce and Dick are playing a complicated version of chess, Dick says "Holy Reshevsky!" This is a reference to Samuel Reshevsky, a Polish-born chess prodigy and American grandmaster.
