Wild 'Terminator 2'-like Episode
ccthemovieman-111 May 2009
"Re Nuyu" is the name of the brown, gooey substance that does the work of plastic surgery, but in seconds! (See the first part in the last episode). However, there are some complications, such as the shape-changing only lasting a very short time.

This second part of a two-part series has some really interesting Terminator 2-type scenes with "Matt Hagen" changing from his muddy Jabba The Hut-type mud monster into various human beings with wild appendages that can kill. Only his buddy "Teddy" is willing to be his loyal friend but the schizophrenic and morphic-like Hagen has too quick a temper for anyone.

Hagan is actually against "Roland Daggett," Bruce Wayne's foe, but he's also no friend of Batman, either.....or anyone, for that matter. His present condition has him 100 percent hostile - period. He morphs within seconds into all the acting roles he's ever had, back to the monster, in and out, in and out - pretty frenetic.

This is a wild show and very interesting, start-to-finish. I'll be glad to see this villain again in some future episode.

Clayface and the DC Animated Universe. Warning: Spoilers
CLAYFACE AND THE DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE

------- ------- ------- -------

Feat of Clay is the first of at least another 3 or 4 Batman adventures that feature one or many persons from the show business at the center of the plot. In this case we have the case of actor Matt Hagen using his abilities to incriminate an innocent Bruce Wayne of a lot of crimes he didn't commit.

Between those other Batman animated episodes having one or more persons from the Showbiz either if they are movie actors, models, stage comedians or make some other kind of performance work at the nucleus of the plot, we have the acclaimed "Baby Doll" also "Mean Seasons" (this one from The New Batman Adventures) and of course "Made 'Em Laugh".

Talking about the adventure in hand, Clayface's story may be a metaphor for a lot of things that people do to try to hide a flaw of character and sometimes in the end, they just make it much bigger like Matt Hagen when he uses that dangerous substance to hide the imperfections of his face and only ends up damaging his entire body, thus turning himself into CLAYFACE!

Talking now about Clayface as a villain, he may not be normally considered one of the top ten Batman opponents of all time, but taking in consideration that he can impersonate the figure and voice of so many characters from Bruce Wayne to the Flash we have to give him credit..As a villain... ...he is a hell of an actor!!! And also, we doubtlessly enjoyed some pretty good episodes featuring him; in my opinion one of the most startling among the Batman and Robin adventures had Clayface involved, in this last case I rather not revealing the episode in which that happens for you to enjoy the surprise.

We will also see him teaming up with other villains in one of the series that span-off from Batman Animated: "Justice League".

Thanks for reading.

The Actor Acting
injury-6544714 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is an amazing follow up to Part 1. I thought this was the superior part of the two.

The bodily transformations that Clayface goes through are creative and look spectacular. It becomes borderline disturbing the way his flesh mutates.

I love the final reveal, it really ties together what we know about this character and his career as a successful actor. It's a beautifully theatrical way to leave the episode & also to outsmart Batman.

I'm so glad the character is still around. I hope he returns to the show. There are so many ways his powers of shapeshifting could be used.

My only criticism is that the episode opens with him discussing his malady with his friend. This guy doesn't seem at all fazed about his friend's transformation into a hideous goopy clay beast. He's very matter-of-fact about it, which doesn't seem realistic. Surely they should have shown some kind of transition of him learning to accept the deformities & that this is still his friend underneath the clay. His unquestionable loyalty and stalwartness doesn't seem earned.

A lab accident ready for his closeup
Mr-Fusion27 December 2016
I got a kick out of the end battle when this was shown back in the '90s. It reminded me of "Terminator 2". It just seemed like such a novel way for Batman to fix the problem, and I still think it totally works. Part II of 'Feat of Clay' features some very nice artwork (just for the chroma saturation alone) which is definitely a plus; on the other hand, Clayface does need a higher end animation house. His fluidity is where the real danger lies, and he's one of the more physically imposing Batman villains.

This is another episode that brings out Batman's compassion - striving to help Matt Hagan with his condition why stopping him as Clayface. This is one of the examples of the writers' penchant for pathos.; that scene with the many screens is a sad one. Although it does dovetail nicely with every great actor's thirst for a meaty death scene.

A superior second half.

Clayface Part 2: Thrilling Episode!
panagiotis19937 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Bruce got out of jail pretty fast. Daggett wants to take control of Wayne Enterprises, I think the real villain here is Daggett. Nice to see a bit more of Clayface's story in this episode. After what Daggett's people did to him now Hagen has the ability to shapeshift without using Daggett's cream but he can't keep it up for long, interesting. You have to feel bad for him just like Mr. Freeze. I have to say that this episode is more intriguing than Part 1. Clayface is losing it, turning against his only friend. Hagen has lost his mind and identity, consumed by rage and feelings of vengeance, he is now Clayface!!! Epic. Love the design for Clayface. This episode also has more delicious action. Wow what an epic episode, full of thrilling moments and action. My rating is 9.0/10!

Fantastic Episode! (This is a review for both parts)
zanghi_james20 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
(Fun Fact: The subplot of Roland Daggett trying to manipulate events to take over Wayne Enterprises is also used in The Dark Knight Rises with Daggett working with Bane.)

This was a great two-parter. Much better than 'Cat and Claw'.

Matt Hagen's transformations throughout these two episodes are almost on the same level as David Cronenberg's nightmarish body-morphing horror, especially when you realize he is morphing his skin and using it as weapons, including projectiles. His character is fascinating, though, and I love the fact that he also exposes Daggett at the climax, showing he is a bit of an anti-hero, at least in this episode.

Much like 'The Cat and the Claw' two-parter, Bruce/Batman is basically a secondary character in order to give more exposition to Clayface and Daggett. It works, though.

I really enjoyed this episode, even though some of Clayface's body-morphings are stomach-churning. The twist at the end was quite satisfying, also.

Clayface is truly an over-powered and compelling character!

Warning: Spoilers
Clayface is truly an over-powered and compelling character! This amazing episode of the show gives us a great close-up to Clayface's tragic backstory. It's nice to see this conclude, even though the ending of this episode is very trippy. Matt Hagen is a great character, and the idea of an actor becoming someone like Clayface, and you can even feel a little bad for him, he even states he's no longer a man. The animation here was also amazing, Clayface's fluid character movements are represented here so well, and I'm quite happy that I got so invested in this episode. This two-parter was great, filled with suspense and tragedy, which is what this series is best at.

Clayface Part 2
VetteRanger28 January 2023
Lucious Fox is still in the hospital and is seemingly the only person who can clear Bruce Wayne of the charge of setting him up for industrial espionage and death. The industrialist who controls Clayface has smothered him in the shape changing cream, but in the process, if he concentrates he can assume any shape, mimic any person.

Clayface doesn't so much commit any crimes here as try to seek revenge on the man responsible for this condition, as Clayface is monstrous without the energy-sapping effort to concentrate on a "normal" look. When the industrialist sends an assassin after Lucious Fox, Batman intervenes, and Clayface hopes to take the assassin's identity to get close for his revenge ...

Batman's Darkest episode
DrakeLee10 January 2008
This is the darkest episode of Batman the animated series yet. Why i can say that it is not the best it is certainly up there with the other great episodes. This episode basically introduces us one of Batman's most disgusting enemies. As always in this series it is not straigh forward with the villain and concluding the second half of the episode we see Clay face. The plot is original and the villain is grotesque. For a animated series this episode can be compared to films. It is graphic even for animation. You can really appreciate the work that went into making this series. All the villains are given screen time and when they do the freaks like Two Face and Joker we can see they are truly mad. Keeping to this episode i can honestly say that Clay Face stuck out as Batman's most disgusting villain. I found myself amazed out how well they developed his character in th episode. This is classical Batman and just suitable for TV audiences. If this episode was made a movie it would have to be eighteens. Seriously a must watch for all Batman fans.
