I remember this episode well, as it showed a woman (Dana Wynter) who was experiencing extreme pain in her face. The doctors (Casey, I presume), tested her level of pain by exerting pressure on her leg. When she reacted to the pain in her leg, they could measure the amount of pain in her face. The only remedy was to sever the nerves in her face, alleviating the pain but leaving her with no muscle control on one side of her face.
It was ten years later that my mother also experienced this face pain, caused by seizures in the trigeninal nerve, also called tic delaroux. My mother had brain surgery (then experimental) which totally resolved the problem.
But I will never forget watching my mother in so much pain. Nor will I forget this episode of Ben Casey.
