ARTHUR TREACHER AND THE CLAMPETTS?
tcchelsey28 January 2024
You know someone like Arthur Treacher, the ideal gentleman among gentlemen, had to eventually appear on the show.

Another family makeover finds frustrated Mr. Drysdale wanting to bring some class to the Clampetts, and PERHAPS it will rub off! He recruits his own butler, Mr. Pinckney (Treacher) to teach Jed, Granny, Ellie May and Jethro the "art" of being prim and proper, including a new wardrobe...

Good luck with that.

The best scenes come when Mr. Pinckney attempts to dress Jed in a new suit. Jed scoffs, "You'll have to SHOOT me first before you dress me!" There's also a running gag that finds Pinckney hanging by his suspenders from the stairway -- each time Mr. Drysdale and Miss Jane enter the house.

Arthur Treacher, known as Hollywood's favorite butler, is a hoot, fondly remembered for his appearances opposite Shirley Temple in so many classic films. Prior to this episode, Arthur played the constable in MARY POPPINS, which would be his final film. He appeared many times on the MERV GRIFFIN SHOW with lots of great Hollywood stories. He also served in World War I, and made his film debut in 1929.

Look for Judy, the famous chimp, playing Cousin Bessie. Judy appeared in over 40 episodes, also featured in DAKTARI and LOST IN SPACE.

Top direction by Joseph Depew, credited for making the show the #1 sitcom on tv at the time.

A must for Treacher buffs, even in black and white. SEASON 3 EPISODE 11 remastered. 5 dvd box set. Released 2006.
