"Did you drag me through all that smog for this," Mr. Ferber (Herb Voland) asked Larry Tate was an inside joke at Los Angeles Smog problem at the time and the growing traffic Issues evolving. Connecticut where The Stephens lived wasn't effected by the famed L.A. traffic and smog issues.
The Krazitzes have moved. Both the exterior and interior are different than in previous episodes. Gladys is seen on the porch of her new house complete with ornate decoration above her. On the Columbia Ranch lot, this home is known as the "Oliver House" and is next door to the "Blondie House" on the north side whereas the previous home of the Kravitzes was the "Partridge House," which is next door to, on the south side of, the "Blondie House". So, the Kravitzes moved two houses to the north, further away from the Stephenses.
The Oliver House was used as the homes of the Mitchell family on Dennis the Menace (1959) and the Stone family on The Donna Reed Show (1958) and can be seen in many other shows, movies, and commercials.
So, why the move? The Partridge House was heavily damaged in the January 1970 fire on the Columbia Ranch lot and had to be rebuilt before it could be used. This also caused problems with production of The Partridge Family (1970) and several episodes were shot only on sets in the studio.
