While padre Robert Karnes is away Victoria Barkley winds up watching his mission and in particular three Yaqui Indian women, one of them very pregnant seeking shelter.

They'll need shelter and protection because three real bottom feeding low life scalphunters are sniffing around the mission. And the only other person around is James Gregory who likes to pop a cork and who's no better than he ought to be or as the situation calls for.

This is Gregory's second appearance as reprobate Simon Carter. He and Barbara Stanwyck have a nice chemistry together. There's also a fine performance from L.Q. Jones as the head scalphunter.

Victoria returns to the medical mission she visited last season when epidemic of measles broke - with intention of seeing Father Andre. At the stagecoach depot she meets the same man that she tamed last season in the name of Simon Carter (James Gregory) that drives her out to the mission where he informs Victoria that the Yaki Indians have been making trouble in the area. But we, as viewers, know that the trouble is not caused by the Indians but by white renegades set to cause problems every way they can. They have there eyes set on the hair scalps of three young Indian women that is held up in the mission.

When Simon rides out to check on some information about Buffalo, the three renegades storm the mission. Victoria has to hold the men back all by herself but it will prove too much for her.

Barbara Stanwyck and James Gregory chemistry is seen again in this appealing show. I actually wish they had continued with an episode every now and then but this would prove to end the Victoria/Simon relationship. A show that was entertaining to the end.

Second favorite episode of all Big Valley episodes of all seasons! Victoria and Simon! Together again!! Pretty much the BEST CHEMISTRY i can ever recall in any program! Simon, spruced up and so nervous to see Victoria again! Adorable! But also so funny and exciting and ... i dunno, EXHILARATING!! i feel myself "BEAMING" as i watch them together! My face hurts from smiling and laughing! Now listen, if you're really here for a quality review, this ain't it! i suggest you check out the prior guys review, it is informative and complete. Very well done. But i'm just here to tell ya this episode ya don't wanna miss! If you LOVED "Pursuit s2 e5", this one is just as great! That seldom happens, usually the second try is a letdown. But Victoria and Simon ... they just have "IT"!! Wait not to mention, the (usually) scary type bad dude LQ Jones! Brilliant as always! Listen this episode has got it all! Second best ever!!

This script was perfect. It was good to see barbara stanwyck featured since she was such a great actor and since the script was perfect the ending was perfect.
