The plot doesn't make a heckuva a lot of sense but the episode is well balanced between all four Cartwright. Plus you get a very young Adam West playing a heel. Gotta give it a thumbs up.

I assume the reviewer meant the fourth wife, as in 4. Instead it says forth, as in go forth. Further, the "bride" was not tricked into this nor did she drag the family to the town. She is a willing participant in a scam on Ben Cartwright. She volunteered to go with Ben and his boys to find the supposed thief who misrepresented himself as Ben Cartwright. Misleading and poor review posted as Featured Review. Real review should state: A beautiful young woman arrives at the Ponderosa, claiming she is Mrs. Ben Cartwright. Adam, Hoss, and Little Joe accompany their father to the town the woman claims she is from to clear up the confusion. Ben is arrested for the murder of a local miner and Hoss and Little Joe are arrested by the sheriff as they try to find the person behind the scam. The "bride" refuses to tell the truth, but Adam uncovers who is behind the fraud.

This is a fairly predictable story where a younger woman, Jennifer Lane (Suzanne Lloyd) shows up at the Ponderosa claiming she is the new Mrs. Ben Cartwright, having recently married Ben. Ben is away on a trip to Carson City for business, but soon shows up. After getting over her shock at marrying someone else, Jennifer runs up to her room, and the Cartwrights decide to visit the town where she married the fake Ben Cartwright, but they need Jennifer to identify him.

On the way they visit the camp of an old miner, Ned Birch (Hank Worden). After leaving Ned's camp, Ned is murdered and an envelop addressed to Ben Cartwright is dropped next to him.

On arrival, Ben goes to Sheriff Mike Latimer's (John McIntire) office where Ben is arrested almost immediately.

Jennifer is upset about the murder, but continues to do what her boyfriend Frank Milton (Adam West) wants, including identifying Ben Cartwright as the man she married.

Eventually LIttle Joe and Hoss are also in jail, leaving Adam to sort it out and he goes after Frank.

In the end the main bad guy is Sheriff Latimer, who always wanted a place like the Ponderosa. But, he is shot by Adam as he is getting ready to shoot Jennifer in the back. Jennifer is trying to tell the truth to the drunken mob now that her boyfriend Frank died in a struggle with Adam.

The first few seasons of Bonanza struggle. Once they get to season 5 or so, it's gold. So is the season 2 episode: The Bride with Suzanne Lloyd, good? The answer is 100%! This is a fantastic episode, with great acting from the four Cartwrights, and Lloyd (who is extremely beautiful in this show). I was totally shocked at how good this episode was. If you ever feel like it's too hard to watch Bonanza from the beginning, all the way to the end, just watch "The Bride" and your troubles will be solved. The episode tells a classic story of mistaken identity with great supporting actors backing it up. It had multiple twists and turns that caught me completely off guard. This episode is worth the watch!

The episode start off pretty good with a young woman announcing to the Cartwright brothers that she was their new step-mother. Then when Ben arrives home, it's discovered that she is not - she was tricked. But as she drags the family over to the town she claims to h ave been from, things go from bad to worst.

With Ben, Little Joe and Hoss in jail, it's up to Adam to catch the man who really killed the miner and convince Jennifer to convince the truth...

It really strains the writers to come up with a new scheme each week to accommodate the guest stars ... this scheme is highly dubious because of all the outright lies and deceit ... mcintire proves to be the bigger crook than adam west

Suzanne Lloyd arrives at the Ponderosa and surprises the three brothers saying that she is the 4th Mrs. Ben Cartwright. This bolt out of the bluer is most emphatically denied by Lorne Greene and the 4 Cartwrights take a trip to a rather rough miner's town where Lloyd met the fiend who said he was Ben Cartwright.

Of course it is a con, but the Cartwrights find themselves in Sheriff John McIntire's jail for shooting one of the miners. The question is just who is behind the game?

This wasn't well thought out and if one of the sons had been left behind.to tend to the Ponderosa the whole scheme would have fallen apart.
