Lucille Ball was offered the role of Helen Chambers, which went to Glynis Johns. Ball was the co-founder of Desilu Productions, the predecessor of Paramount Television, producers of "Cheers". Johns starred in a sitcom, "Glynis", for Desilu in 1963.
This is Paul Willson's first appearance on the show. His character, Glen, would eventually morph into the character of frequent customer, Paul Krapence.
Glen impresses Coach by knowing all the lyrics to the Bonanza theme song which causes Sam to faint. Nicholas Colasanto directed two episodes of Bonanza.
The red shirt with the white collar that Sam Malone is wearing is almost identical to the one Gilligan wears throughout the entire series of Gilligan's Island (1964). Sam's has pockets on front. Gilligan's does not. Sam also doesn't wear Gilligan's hat. Or his jeans.
Per the title, for good luck the bride must wear something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. In Glynis John's culture there is a fifth item, a talisman for wealth in the form of, "a silver sixpence in your shoe."
