- TriviaPart of the episode takes place on Tuesday July 23rd 1940, when Prime Minister Churchill renamed the LDV to the Home Guard.
- GoofsMuch is made of the fact that Mainwaring has promised the platoon rifles by the end of the week. On the day he must face the men he receives a phone call from GHQ confirming that the Local Defence Volunteers have been renamed the Home Guard. This occurred on Tuesday July 23rd 1940, and it is extremely unlikely that this news would be kept from active troops for three days or so.

Command Decision
The Local Defence Volunteers have been renamed the Home Guard but they still have no uniforms and no weapons.
Captain Mainwaring still has plans to show Harry Hun what they will face if any of them show up in Walmington on Sea by teaching the men how to do unarmed combat. Corporal Jones faints when the breathing supply on his gas mask is cut off.
However crackpot Colonel Square shows up, a world war one veteran, who claims he can offer his men rifles, provided he gets to command the troops.
The men find out that Colonel Square still believes in the cavalry charge that went out with the ark. The men have to get on the horses and find out that they were trained for the circus.
It is interesting to see that Captain Mainwaring might be pompous but less of a buffoon in the early shows. The horse part was well staged.
