Previously on The Dead Zone, Johnny meets Rachel, a beautiful blond. She gets killed so he goes out with her sister, a beautiful blond. But she leaves and Johnny goes back to saving lives, the next one in the form of Erica, a beautiful blond. That was the last episode. In this episode, things are different, this time the girl's name is Alex. She happens to be a beautiful blond. See a pattern yet?
Anyway, this episode's concept is one that the producers of this show were always hesitant to have, Johnny meeting someone who shares his psychic abilities. I agreed with them to keep away from the idea, because it would open up a big Pandora's box of how many else are out there like himself, do they know about each other, why aren't the others as famous as Johnny, and now that he met them, shouldn't they keep in touch, something the writers hate to do, keep in touch with previous episodes.
But they did it and did it pretty well. I just feel that the premise of this girl shouldn't be wasted on just one episode. This should be a major thing, especially if Johnny is going to fall for her. Keep her around for a little while. At least they gave Rebecca some justice and kept her around for more than just a cup of coffee.
The episode itself was very nicely done, was fun, and Jennifer Finnigan played her Alex character very well. Helps that she is friggin' gorgeous, too. Of course it was another whodunnit crime mystery and I hate when that's all they delegate Johnny to. There's got to be more than just Detective Johnny to show us. And where's Gene? What's Greg up to? Even if it's just for a quick update, I'd like to know. They shouldn't just be tossed out of the picture completely until their stories are ready to be told. They play intricate roles in Johnny's life so it would be fitting for him to say hi to them once and a while.
At least they keep with the Walt-Sara-Johnny problems. For some reason that hasn't got old for me yet. It just makes them so human, I guess. And humans are more fun to watch then people. More of that would be great, thanks.
