This was the first episode of the series to be shot in color.
John J. "Black Jack" Pershing (1860-1948) was eventually promoted to the rank of General of the Armies (GAS), essentially a six-star rank. The only other GAS was George Washington, promoted in 1976 (180 years after his death). Pershing got the nickname Black Jack because of he served with the 10th Cavalry ("Buffalo Soldiers") 1895; he served with them again in 1989 and after 1901.
