Final regular episode of Diagnosis Murder - tribute to Blair Witch Project
safenoe6 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is the final regular episode of Diagnosis Murder, the 22nd episode of season 8. Two TV movies followed to continue the Diagnosis Murder story.

The Blair Nurse Project is quite serious and gruesome in many respects believe it or not. It's directed by Barry Van Dyke, and features all his four children: Carey (who plays Craig Wilson, the director of the documentary that's a homage to Blair Witch Project), Shane, Wed, and Taryn.

One very spooky element is when Dr Sloane discovers the origin of the skeleton in his office.

Here the episode features a séance and also apparently the ghost of Craig's mother in a video, played at the end of the episode. It's a very spooky episode for sure, and it seemed the writers wanted to stretch the Diagnosis Murder boundaries into the paranormal. This was very edgy, and maybe a Diagnosis Murder reboot can feature paranormal elements, just like Baywatch Nights.

A Family Affair

With Dick Van Dyke knowing that the "Blair Nurse Project" would be the final episode of the "series, he took the opportunity to feature his family. Son Barry directed and is credited as one of the writers along with Van Dyke's grandson Carey. In all, 6 members of the Van Dyke family had acting roles. The story is entertaining in a campy way. The plot is about a haunted space in the hospital complete with flickering lights. An enjoyable episode when watched in the spirit intended.

You could believe the show was not renewed based on this episode, but that was not the case...

I doubt that the cast knew the show was cancelled during filming as they usually found out yearly at the last minute. This episode surely was bad enough to kill a series. It would have been nice if they had a real finale of some sort.

The final (and worst) Van Dyke family episode
Ljk9258010 June 2022
I will be completely honest, I couldn't even make it through the entire episode. It was that bad. It flew past "so bad it's funny" and landed on "so bad this is uncomfortable to watch". All of the Van Dyke family episodes were bad but this one was on another level. I will always love the legendary Dick Van Dyke but I will never forgive him for unleashing the horrific acting of Carey, Shane, Taryn and Wes on the world. We did not deserve this.
