People often say that they don't like the first season. Now that I am older, I am going back and watching the first season of A Different World. I am enjoying every episode.
Seasons 2 - 6 were definitely groundbreaking. However, nothing was wrong with the season 1. It was just a carefree show. The format, writing, acting and etc were light and carefree. For someone who was in elementary school when the show came out, the first season was perfect for me to watch.
Having the show transform to showcase heavier topics (such as date rape, HIV, racism, sexual harassment, voting) as well as HBCU culture was also fantastic.
