Yikes, this was a cringe inducing episode. It's one of those unfortunate situations where the cast of a TV show is given the opportunity to show off their other performing skills, by finding an excuse to have the gang put on a talent show. In this case, the students at Hillman take over a public television station for a telethon to save a children's after school program. That's the thin plotline that holds together (or, you know, doesn't) the performances. Most noteworthy (for sheer awfulness): Jaleesa doing a limp version of Paula Abdul's "Straight Up," Kim singing some insipid tune I don't remember while a couple of the after school center tykes sit beside her and gaze adoringly, and, most horrifyingly, Dwayne's tight ass girlfriend Kinu (more on that in a minute) hopping around the stage and doing what I gather was supposed to be scatting but sounded more like she was speaking in tongues. I don't remember watching this episode in it's original run, but I've been streaming the show on Amazon and it comes in the lineup AFTER Dwayne broke up with Kinu for Whitley, which makes me think it originally aired on NBC after those episodes. Or, maybe it never made it to air the first time, if the producers watched it after it was filmed and had the good sense to hide the recording. If only they'd destroyed it...
