- Fallon Carrington Colby: What's going on in there, Steven?
- Steven Carrington: They're selecting a jury of his peers.
- Fallon Carrington Colby: Oh, that's a joke. Who are they to judge Blake Carrington?
- Steven Carrington: What about Ted? Are they his peers, Fallon?
- [Fallon looks away abashedly]
- D.A. Jake Dunham: I- I didn't realize that people... American people had major-domos anymore. As a matter of fact, I'm an American and I don't even know what a major-domo is. What exactly is a major-domo, Ms. Robbins?
- Jeanette Robbins: Well, ehm... he's the head, eh, the administrative head of the household. Eh, Chief retainer.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: Well, that's a very precise definition, Ms. Robbins. Did you look that up in a book once?
- Jeanette Robbins: No, I got it from Joseph.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: [audience members laugh] I'm sure you did.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: And how did you meet?
- Stephen: We were at a party.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: What kind of a party?
- Stephen: I - I don't understand the question.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: Well, was it a gay party? Gay, not as in happy, but as in homosexual.
- [Everyone laughs uproariously]
- D.A. Jake Dunham: The intent of the question was not to amuse! The intent was to get a direct answer from the witness!
- Stephen: No! It was not a gay party in either of those senses. It was after an art gallery opening. And, and we both just happened to be there.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: I see. You met and you became friends, is that true?
- Stephen: Yes.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: Close friends who decided to take an apartment together. Is that a fact, Mr. Carrington?
- Stephen: Yes, that's a fact.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: Mr. Carrington, did you and Mr. Denard become lovers in this apartment?
- Stephen: Yes, we did.
- Matthew Blaisdel: Now, I want you to listen to me, Krystle. Now you know this trial is gonna be very, very hard. You know that, don't you?
- Krystle Carrington: Yes.
- Matthew Blaisdel: Well, then run from it the way you started to. Run from the both of us, Blake and me. Now maybe I shouldn't say this, but you finally had the courage to do the right thing and, dammit, do it.
- Krystle Carrington: Did you desert Claudia when she was in trouble?
- Matthew Blaisdel: No.
- Krystle Carrington: Blake's still my husband. And I'm going to stand by him.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: Mr. Laird, I just want to say I've been an admirer of yours for a long time.
- Andrew Laird: Thank you.
- D.A. Jake Dunham: I'm really gonna enjoy this. Kinda reminds me of my football days, first time I ever made the varsity. I finally get to play with the big boys.
- Andrew Laird: Don't let the down-home suit and tie fool you. If anybody's got his eye on the governor's office someday, it's Dunham.
- Blake Carrington: Let's hope he doesn't make it over my dead body.
- Matthew Blaisdel: [Claudia shook up watching news accounts about Steven] Are you all right? You look like you're upset.
- Claudia Blaisdel: I am. It's what you said about these lawyers. I mean, they're turning this trial into some kind of sporting event. It's not a trial.
- Matthew Blaisdel: I know that, but that's their job. And if I know Jake Dunham, he hasn't even started yet.
- Andrew Laird: Blake, I'm gonna spell it out for you, okay? You've stepped on a lot of political toes. You've supported a lot of the wrong people in political campaigns. You passed out a hell of a lot of money to causes resented by a hell of a lot of people. And they've been sitting around just waiting for a chance like this. To watch Blake Carrington go under.
- Krystle Carrington: Blake, I can't do that, I can't go to that meeting.
- Blake Carrington: You've got to. The sharks are beginning to circle and they think that I'm weak enough so that they can slip in and chew me up. But you're going to stop them.
- [last lines]
- Judge Horatio Quinlan: Now, please answer the question again.
- Stephen: He stood there, okay?
- D.A. Jake Dunham: But your sister, Mr. Carrington, testified that Mr. Denard was the one who pushed, who shoved, who lunged, who attacked your father. Isn't that true? Isn't that what your sister has told this court?
- Stephen: My sister lied.
- [the courtroom gasps]
- Stephen: She lied.
