Heavy episode where a tragic thing happens

Warning: Spoilers
Another heavy topic. This time about suicide. Blair is depressed because she lost the vote to become student president. But her depressed state is mainly laced with humor. The real depression lies with the winner of the vote, Cynthia.

Cynthia by all accounts had everything going for her, but she kills herself. The girls have a hard time understanding. The term "depression" isn't used here. I can't remember if that term was used back then or not? We didn't know enough back then. We understand better now I think, tho it can be complex.

I think this episode should have been a two-parter versus the."Teenager Marriage" two-parter. I felt like the girls' reactions and after-effects weren't explored enough. Everything was a bit rushed. I wish Jo didn't already have a friend that committed suicide back in Brooklyn. I felt she should have been stunned right along with the rest of the girls.

I think it's touching when you think about how Cynthia gave her necklace to Tootie. Nobody realizes at the time what a profound and sad gesture that was. I'm glad Tootie kept the necklace.

Anyway, a good episode that still had some humor in it. 8/10.

I've watched Facts of Life from its original airing through the reruns on many stations. I don't recall seeing this episode. Sometimes stations eliminate certain episodes because they feel the issue is too tough or politically incorrect. This episode is real. For 30 minutes it was done tastefully.
