Angela Wins At Any Cost Even In Family Quarrels
JasonDanielBaker12 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Lance (Lorenzo Lamas) generally doesn't resist his grandmother Angela's attempts to run his life for him and realize the potential she sees in him very little of which is actually there.

When Angela Channing (Jane Wyman) tries to marry him off to Melissa Agretti (Dolores Cantu), heir to the Agretti wine fortune and an accomplished young woman she sees something of herself in rather than Lori (Cindy Morgan) the comely young woman he is actually in love with it threatens to drive them apart.

Meanwhile Chase (Robert Foxworth) excavates his father's secret room in Jason Gioberti's old house. He finds more evidence of Jason's feud with Angela as well of a car accident which confined Jason's former girlfriend Elizabeth Bradbury to a wheelchair which may have been the fault of Jason or Angela or both. Chase confronts Angela and discovers instead how much he really hurt his father Jason by not returning to the vineyard.

Angela is very selective in the information she gives Chase causing him bad feeling and heartbreak of a different kind than she has caused Lance by driving away Lori.

By this point in the series the viewer is getting an idea of how accident-prone this family is. The debut episode showed Jason's accidental death caused by crazy Emma his beloved niece and her would-be suitor Turner Bates. The episode immediately preceding this one showed Lance accidentally causing Emma to miscarry her baby fathered by Bates. We hear about another car accident after seeing multiple ones and we're only in the 11th episode. No wonder insurance rates for wineries are so high.

The casting in this episode is noteworthy. Cindy Morgan would return to the show in its sixth season as Gabrielle Short, a completely different character. Also in this episode Melissa Agretti, a pivotal character in the series would be originated by Dolores Cantu rather than Ana Alicia who would assume the role a month later and remain in it for the remainder of the character's term on the series.

Dolores Cantu would move on to a few walk-on guest appearances on Dallas but never be seen on Falcon Crest again.
