It's a good one

Warning: Spoilers
Lana (played by Susan Neher) does a good job of being a friend to Buffy even though she later breaks own and cries in front of Buffy. Susan was also good in To Rome With Love; I have heard that Susan has phased out of acting

It's obvious what you're supposed to take from this episode, but nothing resonates. Buffy's new friend, Lana, has a mother that allows Lana to do "whatever she wants." The moral of the story is obvious. My problem with this episode is that I didn't like Lana at all. She had a mean looking face, which matched her abrasive personality. I don't recall seeing Susan Neher in anything else. I'm perfectly fine with that. Then, there was the business of Lana calling Buffy "Ava." This was because Lana thought Buffy looked more like an "Ava." This was one of the stupidest premises I've ever come across in a TV show. "Ava" is not a common name, and it's unlikely that any child would pick that name at random. Lana's mother is quite irresponsible, and Lana's father is not referred to at all. This also made no sense. Since so much focus was placed on this unlikeable character, why not explain why her father is not present? I didn't like very much about this episode. A different actress should have played Lana. It's hard to sympathize with a character you don't like. Another point: there was very little of Cissy in this episode. I didn't like her new hairstyle, but I like everything else about Cissy!
