Steve is being bullied by another student, who looks like a grown man. Bull Wesson is taking Steve's lunch money. Steve finally decides to stand up to this bully. Eddie agrees to try to protect Steve from Bull, but for a price. Ultimately, Eddie does come through for Steve. Whether or not Eddie took the $10 he was promised, is not made clear. Laura is notably cold to Steve, in most of the Season One episodes. That Steve-Laura connection hadn't been established yet. However, she does show a small amount of concern for Steve. Another curious thing is that Laura has a different "best friend" in this and other Season One episodes. Ebonie Smith played Penny. Penny was gone, starting in Season Two, replaced by Cherie Johnson as Maxine. No disrespect to Cherie, but Ebonie was just fine as Penny. An early example of how characters on this show were replaced abruptly, and without an explanation.

Way to go, Steve, Eddie, AND Carl! Important episode about standing up for what's right in the face of adversity. A lesson many could stand to learn from.
