- Harriette Winslow: Walrus will just have to wait.
- Laura Winslow: His name is Seal, Mom.
- Harriette Winslow: Walrus, Seal, Porpoise, whatever marine animal he is, the answer's no!
- Harriette Winslow: You know, Laura, I've always thought of myself as a pretty liberated woman, but sometimes I find myself acting like my own parents. I guess it's time I dragged myself into the 20th century.
- Laura Winslow: That's good since it'll be over in a few years.
- Laura Winslow: [to her parents] Hold up! You're fine with Eddie going to Canada for 4 days with friends you don't even know, but you're *not* okay with me going to Toledo, overnight, with friends that you've known for years?
- Eddie Winslow: [nervous] Let's go, Waldo, it's starting to get ugly in here.
- Carl Winslow: What's shaking, guys?
- Waldo Geraldo Faldo: That's kind of a personal question, isn't it?
- Laura Winslow: Why are you letting Eddie go to Canada? Is it because he's older?
- Harriette Winslow: Well, that's part of the reason.
- Laura Winslow: What's the other part?
- [pause]
- Laura Winslow: I know it can't be that he's more mature, he still blows spit bubbles.
- Carl Winslow: Well, Laura, there's just no easy way to say it, except I guess to say it. It's because he's a boy and you're a girl.
- Laura Winslow: Mom, can you believe that?
- Harriette Winslow: Well, actually, I kind of agree with your father.
