James Broderick: Doug Lawrence
Quotes
-
Doug Lawrence : What caused the trouble?
Dr. Sidney Simon : Emotion, stress, overexertion.
Kate Lawrence : He's saying you'll have to give up disco lessons.
-
Doug Lawrence : [at an office Christmas party] Willie, did you get the rum for the eggnog?
Doug Lawrence : No, but I'll get it tomorrow morning.
Willie Lawrence : Well, why not, today?
Willie Lawrence : I had other things to take care of.
Doug Lawrence : You know, Willie, you got to get yourself organized.
Willie Lawrence : [chuckles] Come on, Dad.
Doug Lawrence : No, I'm serious.
Willie Lawrence : What, are we gonna argue over a bottle of rum?
Doug Lawrence : No, I'm not talking about a bottle of rum! I'm talking about responsibility! If people are gonna depend on you, you can't just put things off.
Willie Lawrence : Just relax, okay, Dad?
Doug Lawrence : If I thought you were on top of things, maybe I would.
Willie Lawrence : I will get as much done as I can, before I have to leave.
Doug Lawrence : [worried] Leave?
Willie Lawrence : [sighs] Rachel and I are going to Mexico for Christmas and we're leaving tomorrow night.
Doug Lawrence : It's Christmas Eve? Well, that's out of the question.
Willie Lawrence : Look, can we talk in your office?
Doug Lawrence : See, this is just what I'm talking about! You have no sense of responsibility!
Willie Lawrence : I'm just taking a vacation. I'm not abandoning the family.
Doug Lawrence : That's not the way it looks to me!
Willie Lawrence : All right, all right. We'll talk tomorrow. Excuse me.
Doug Lawrence : [firmly shoves Willie, who tries to get through] No! No, we won't talk tomorrow! You do not have permission to take this trip!
Willie Lawrence : I'm sorry, I guess you don't know, but I don't need your permission anymore for anything!
[he exits the party]
-
Doug Lawrence : [during a tennis match, Doug starts gasping for air and an alarmed Larry runs over] What is it, Doug?
Doug Lawrence : I'm okay.
Larry Berk : The hell you are. Sit down.
[Doug sits on the floor]
Doug Lawrence : It's nothing. I think it's gone.
Larry Berk : What's gone? What's it feel like?
Doug Lawrence : I just got a pain.
Larry Berk : In your chest? Your left arm?
Doug Lawrence : I thought you were a lawyer, not a doctor.
Larry Berk : My mother has never forgiven me. What about your left arm?
Doug Lawrence : Oh, maybe I pulled a muscle, but it's all right. Come on, let's go.
Larry Berk : [helps Doug up] We're gonna see Sid.
Doug Lawrence : I don't have to see anybody. Who's Sid?
Larry Berk : Dr. Sidney Simon, my brother-in-law, the heart specialist, whom you're about to meet.
Doug Lawrence : What, now?
Larry Berk : No, next year, when they're reading your will.
-
Doug Lawrence : [sees Willie decorating a tree he already bought] Oh, you bought the tree without me?
Willie Lawrence : Dad, I don't have much time.
Doug Lawrence : Well, none of us do. That's why I think it's important for us to be together over the holiday, the whole family.
Willie Lawrence : Dad, please.
Doug Lawrence : [trying to be calm] I don't want to fight, Willie.
Willie Lawrence : Neither do I.
Doug Lawrence : I'm asking you to stay here.
Willie Lawrence : And I'm asking you to please understand I have a 6:00 plane to catch.
Doug Lawrence : [frustrated] Are you doing all this just to spite me?
Willie Lawrence : [sighs] I'm doing this because Rachel and I want to be alone together.
Doug Lawrence : And all it matters is what YOU want?
Willie Lawrence : Like father, like son.
Doug Lawrence : Willie, I have reasons for wanting you here.
Willie Lawrence : Yes, I'll bet you do.
Doug Lawrence : Go away, next Christmas. This year, be here with us!
Willie Lawrence : This Christmas, next Christmas. What's the difference? It always going to be the same with you, Dad.
Doug Lawrence : [angrily] Listen to me, damn it, when I tell you to do something--
[He falls to his knees and clutches his chest to Willie's shock]
