This is basically a story about a local bloke dumping toxic waste, but manages to include a fledgling relationship for Hilly & a new chap who is basically her male equivalent.
Paul is a very taciturn young mechanic who answers an ad for the garage. He lives with his sheepdog on a narrowboat, won't talk about - well, anything much - and is very reminiscent of Hilly from S1.
When Hilly is knocked off her horse by the waste man's lorry, Paul takes her some flowers (& then springs her from jail, er, the hospital). Later, Hilly rides over to the narrowboat, invites herself in and pretty much seduces him (well, in so far as any such thing would ever be seen in FG, so a just peck on his cheek!) into helping Jack & the local environmental protection officer prosecute the waste dumper.
Whether Paul will become a fixture is anyone's guess, but it really does mark the complete change in Hilly. It's not bad, just different.
