Contrary To The Complaints, The Show Was Still Popular

Although other reviews do not like that Niles and Daphne have gotten together, "Frasier" was rated in the top twenty for season eight. Of course, it would go on through season eleven. Will the complaining continue that long, too? Let's hope not.

Aftermath

I am pleased to see, on the one hand, that there are consequences to what happened at the end of Season 7. Donny, the lawyer, is going to go after Frasier and Daphne for their part in his unhappiness. Mel has made a dramatic demand to Niles to keep him in check. Granted, they should never have gotten to this point, but they are really putting forth their true colors.

Good but...

These episodes are funny but the niles and daphne thing came to late. They missed so many chances to bring them together sooner and better! Donny was a great addition to the cast and would have made a great regular and Mel was just becoming likable aswell.. Knowing that the rest of the show involved niles messing daphne about, donny getting more screwed and daphne getting pregnant in real life so they had to send her away for abit.. Just became very sloppy. I hear they are planning a come back for frasier, i hope if they do that frasier is settled down because the whole love trials has been over done with frasier and all the cast aswell.

The beginning of a slow end
studioAT23 December 2016
This episode marked the start of the second era of 'Frasier', in my opinion the less good second half.

Niles' longing for Daphne was an always interesting subplot throughout the first seven years, so while I can see the idea of them getting together being a big moment for the show, I don't think the writers truly ever knew where they'd go with it after that. Much like when Ross and Rachel got together in 'Friends' they were dull because they were happy. It's the reason that 'Cheers' kept Sam and Diane in an on/off state for so long.

This episode spends half it's time trying to get back to a new sense of normal that doesn't come, and by the end I was wishing that Daphne and Niles driving off into the sunset had been the end of the show full-stop. But that of course couldn't happen, the show was called 'Frasier'- he had to have a proper ending. Sadly it took another three seasons.
