Another lesser entry in this series about a haunted comedy club that Melinda (JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT) stumbles upon on a night out with her friend from the antique shop they both run. Seems the ghost has a way of playing practical jokes that nobody appreciates--and gradually, Melinda learns to know something about his background. How? She enters the club one night when it's supposed to be closed and discovers it patronized by dead members of the club enjoying a typical comedy routine.
What might have made an interesting story--and what gets off to a good start--can't maintain sufficient interest.
The disfigured spirit of the comic who passed over, wants to find out what happened to cause his sudden, violent death. He asks Melinda for help in finding out why he's dead--and what happened. Eventually, they follow his girlfriend to a bridge where she tosses a bottle of champagne into the river below. "This is where it happened," he realizes. "This is where I killed myself." It sounds better than it plays. Once again, the performances are fine but the overall story misses the mark somehow. Not one of the best from this series.
KATEY SAGAL is good as the nightclub owner and JED REES is fine as the undead comic.
