Foreign Exchange (#4.24)
ComedyFan20109 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Sophia's old friends come from Sicily. As it turns out, it is not just about a visit. They think that the hospital mixed up their daughter and Dorothy on the day they were born and come to take her back to get married. Dorothy goes through emotional time when waiting for results of who her mother is.

A fun episode with a great message that your real parents are the ones who raised and loved you. I loved how Sophia tore apart the blood test without looking at it. Who cares what the blood says, she knows who her daughter is.

And we have some fun watching the great dirty dancing done by Rose and Blanche

The return of Freida Claxton...sort of....
mark.waltz19 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, Frieda Claxton is now a part of the tree next door, but a slight lookalike arrives with different intensions. Nan Martin is one of the most underrated, undeservedly forgotten character actors in the business and along with Vito Scotti comes to Miami to claim Dorothy as their natural daughter, switched at birth with the girl they raised (Flo Di Re). What is hysterically funny is that Di Re resembles Estelle Getty while Bea Arthur and Nan Martin look like they could be related.

The supporting story involves Rose and Blanche taking "dirty dancing" lessons where Rose excels and Blanche apparently stinks. Rose and Blanche even get to demonstrate a bit of it, but that story pales in comparison to the conflict of whether or not Dorothy actually Sophia's daughter. This is a difficult situation to properly wrap up in a way that doesn't end with a copout. But for those who for four seasons laughing at the physical difference between Sophia and Dorothy, it does at least answer a few questions on addition to asking some. What is does come down to is that irregardless, Dorothy and Sophia have the mother/daughter relationship, and that is all that matters.

Outlandish, but funny.

The Boscos, old friends of Sophia's arrive for a visit from Sicily, after the greetings they make an Earth shattering revelation, meanwhile Rose and Blanche take up dirty dancing.

This is definitely one of the zanier episodes, it's outlandish and a little left field, it could easily have been a flop, but it works, it's really funny. Several laugh out loud moments, and of course a host of heart warming scenes.

Favourite moments, first of all Dorothy's interaction with the stressed out woman in the Surgery, and that moment where Dorothy needs a gentle, warming hug from a parent.

If only we'd seen a little bit of Rose and Blanche doing a bit of dirty dancing.

It's so funny to discover that Nan Martin was actually five years younger than Bea Arthur, she really did look way younger than her years.

Very funny.

8/10.
