No way to spell "eew" the way the girls do it.

Warning: Spoilers
Even Dorothy, the modern, free thinker can't even do it. Debra Engle makes the first of several appearances as Blanche's daughter Rebecca who decides to have artificial insemination so she can have a baby. Blanche is aghast and even more disgusted when she goes to the sperm bank. There are a lot of funny comments concerning the silly aspects of Blanche's objections, especially Blanche's response to Dorothy's statement that when you visit a sperm bank, one must be wearing something attractive in rubber.

There's one error in continuity as Dorothy's response to Sophia's inquiry as why they have never bonded considering the earlier episode when they go to Disneyland and Dorothy brings along all the family photos and letters. The other story is a minor one, Sophia's refusal to go for her regular checkup and Dorothy's threat of having her declared incompetent. this is one of the few times where "Golden Girls" would use an episode plot line as a recurring story, showing Rebecca's daughter grow up after an episode that featured Rebecca going through natural childbirth in a hospital that doesn't use drugs.

The Accurate Conception (#5.3)

Warning: Spoilers
Rebecca comes over with once again pretty shocking news for Blanche. She wants a baby but doesn't want to get married so she wants to go to a sperm bank and get artificial insemination. Blanche is very against it, she wants her daughter to have a husband and make the baby "the right way". Even going to the sperm bank doesn't make it better. But at the end she respects Rebecca's choice since she doesn't want to lose her daughter.

A good episode. Once again touching a bit of a controversial topic and make it beautiful comedy and a shout out to tolerate human difference in the paths they want take, especially when those are your children.

Blanche was irritating most of the time, it is always hard to understand how a character like her always also seems to have the most closed mind of all. But as usual she overcomes it and sees that her daughter's decision should be her own.

Sophia was a total blast when she was harassing the guy donating sperm with questions like "do your parents know that you do it for a living?".

GREAT episode!

Another fantastic episode with the Girls!

Blanche's estranged daughter Rebecca comes to visit, and shocks her mother by telling her she wants to have a baby via artificial insemination. Blanche becomes angry at her daughter, and stays angry even when her and the girls go and visit a sperm bank.

The comedy in this episode is brilliant. Rue McClanahan steals the episode with her uproarious shocked mother, but the other girls also get some great lines as well, particularly Sophia. Bea Arthur and Betty White have some great moments as well!

Definitely a must see for any Golden Girl fan!

Wait a minute, was Dorthy r****?

Warning: Spoilers
I know it wasn't the point of the episode - an episode which honestly hasn't aged well for several reasons - but I thought I'd focus on just the part where the Golden Girls were talking about how their kids were conceived.

And Dorothy says she wasn't conscious at the time!

What?!

And that Stan must have 'slipped her something'.

What?!

And nobody seems all that shocked.

What?!

Again, I know that times have changed, and Stan has always been a schmuck, but this means he r**** Dorothy. And planned it. And their child was a product of it.

That is entirely messed up. But the heart breaking thing being that, given the reactions of the other characters, a perfectly acceptable thing to do for the time.
