Enter The Dragon.

The chickens arrive, but the rooster is displaying some unusual behaviours. Life is settling down to normal, however, neighbours Jerry and Margot have plans to convince The Goods to return to the rat race.

It's a cracking episode, it's funny, it's memorable, it's so imaginative, but of course it's notable for one very big reason, the arrival of Margot Leadbetter. Margot would become one of the major driving forces in the show, her snobbery is glorious.

The show didn't exactly need any time to settle down or set the scene, this is the second episode, and it's brilliant.

You get the see the microphone on a couple of occasions.

Brilliant, 9/10.

The New Life Takes Root
Scaramouche200413 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
With both gardens dug, their crops and vegetables planted and a newly acquired goat in tow, Tom and Barbara's new lifestyle is firmly taking root.

Their next step is to convert their old greenhouse into a chicken coop, and fill it with livestock. However when every one of the chickens fail to produce a single egg, Tom and Barbara start to question the sexuality of their cockerel.

Meanwhile next door, Jerry and his wife Margo (Penelope Keith) are concerned for their neighbours who, in their eyes, are obviously suffering from some sort of mental breakdown.

They try to help by inviting Tom and Barbara to their home for a specially arranged dinner party with 'Sir' who is Jerry's boss and Toms former employer. This is done with the idea of getting him back into work.

However despite his egg yielding problem, Tom turns down all their offers boasting of how lucrative his new lifestyle is becoming and returns home with an empty stomach to an empty larder.

Is it time already to kill one of his useless chickens?

Say Little Hen...

Tom and Barbara are getting to grips with the good life. Self sufficiency is not easy. They have chickens that are not laying eggs and the cockerel might be gay.

Making cheese out of goat's milk is a smelly affair. They do not have enough pigswill for the pigs. So Barbara borrows some leftover food from Margo.

Meanwhile Jerry has a plan to help get Tom his old job back. He has invited their boss Sir Andrew and his wife for dinner. Only Tom is resolute with his new life, even though he cannot bring himself to slaughter the chicken to cook for dinner.

It is the old inviting the boss for dinner plotline. Only for Jerry is hoping that Tom will change his mind. Sir Andrew is with Margo, the neighbourhood looks like a tip with what Tom and Barbara has done to the garden.

Amusing as to how new it was back then to live the organic life. The idea that goat's milk or cheese was a novelty.
