- As a gimmick to lure more customers to his dealership, Pete sets up an impossible half-pipe skateboard ramp and offers an award to anyone willing to try. Goofy, who has never won any awards in his life, decides to give it a try.
- Wanda Jean Schmeltzer, Goofy and Pete's classmate, is asking for her classmates' accomplishments since high school. Pete showers her with a laundry list of his accomplishments, but when she says she's going to interview Goofy, he quips that It'll be a really short meeting.
Meanwhile, Max is thumbing through one of his dad's yearbooks but is disappointed when he learns that Goofy didn't participate in any sports in school. Goofy sees an old photo of himself and remarks that Max looks just like him, much to Max's dismay. Max becomes even more chagrined when Jean says the same thing upon meeting the two of them. When Jean hears Goofy's stories, she realizes she can't use any of them. She hands Max a blank form and tells him to fill it out if his dad comes up with anything.
Max goes out to the backyard, where he meets P.J., who says the same thing - Max looks just like his dad. P.J. asks Max to teach him a skateboard maneuver, but when P.J. tries it, the ramp collapses. Max says they need a bigger ramp - like the one P.J.'s dad is building for a publicity stunt, with professional skateboarder Slammer McTwist slated to ride down it.
Max and P.J. sneak into Pete's lot, where Max takes a couple runs down the unfinished ramp before Pete catches him and kicks the kids off the ramp. As they leave, Pete yells after Max that he's just a carbon copy of his dad - a goof.
That night, at dinner, Goofy decides to cheer up his son by saying he's going to win an award for doing something exciting. The next day, however, Goofy attempts several stunts, but fails at all of them. Max suggests they go to a pizzeria in an effort to boost his dad's morale, but they get caught in traffic near Pete's RV lot.
Hearing Pete's announcement, Max asks his dad to raincheck the pizza, as he wants to see Slammer McTwist's stunt. McTwist comes out, but bails when he sees the ramp. Pete tries to get Slammer to return, but the latter says nobody's crazy enough to ride the ramp. Goofy volunteers to ride it
Max and P.J. try to show Goofy how to skateboard, but when Goofy has trouble just standing on the skateboard, Max takes him home and tucks him into bed. Still in a daze, Goofy wanders off to Pete's lot. Max overhears his dad and drags P.J. to the lot, but they're too late to stop Goofy from skating down the ramp.
The boys retrieve Goofy, drag him to P.J.'s house, and lock him in a closet. P.J. asks about the stunt, and Max says they're gonna do it. P.J. asks who's going to believe it's Goofy, and Max says everyone will, since he looks just like his dad.
Dressed in Goofy's high school sweater, the boys make their way to the top of the ramp. Meanwhile, Goofy tries to get Pistol to let him out of the closet. Pistol asks how Goofy could be in the closet and at her dad's car lot at the same time, and Goofy realizes that Max is there in his place.
At the RV lot, Pete cues Goofy to start down the ramp. P.J. tries to back out. Max says that his dad risked his neck to win that award, and he owes it to his dad to at least try. P.J. tells Max that if he gets the award, it'll be his, not his dad's. Max agrees, and the boys decide to call off the stunt. Before they can do anything, however, the skateboard they're on starts going down the ramp. Reaching the other end, the boys eagerly do two more runs before the ramp breaks apart, sending them airborne. Max recovers, and the boys end up skateboarding through Spoonerville before Goofy finally manages to catch up to them.
With Goofy's help, Max and P.J. make it back to the RV lot, where Jean greets them and says that what they did is worth an award any day. When Goofy arrives, however, Max tells Jean who he is, and she sadly says she can't give Goofy the award now. Max and Goofy apologize to each other, to which an exhausted P.J. says, "*You're* sorry?" before collapsing.
At the reunion banquet, a disappointed Goofy tells Max he failed him. Max, however, calls his dad awesome, saying he took on a ramp that Slammer refused to skateboard. Jean mentions one final award for "best father and son in the class," because they would do anything for each other. Thinking the award is for him, Pete stands up, but when Goofy's name is called, he jumps up, knocking Pete over, to P.J.'s amusement. Goofy says that Max is just a chip off the old block. Max tries to downplay the comment, causing his dad to clap a hand over his mouth briefly before they hug.
