amusing if more-often-than-not pretty stupid

Many people seem to consider "Calling A Creeps!" to be one of the show's worst episodes, but I didn't really mind it all that much. Similarly to quite a few other entries in the series, this episode meshes humor, fantasy, and horror, but this time around there's much more of an emphasis on the "humor". While most of the jokes aren't really funny, they aren't embarrassingly bad either, and the same goes for the episode's dialogue, acting, etc. The acting is good for a Goosebumps episode, but is way over the top and some of the exposition is way overboard even for a YA show. Otherwise, it's a pretty fun watch with some interesting elements (the creeps themselves are ridiculous, the concept is delightfully bizarre (if unrealistic even for sci-fi, and relying heavily on coincidence), and the ending is surprisingly bleak for such a lighthearted and silly episode) and is quick enough to be a worthwhile watch for any fan of the series. It's not one of the best episodes by any means, but it's not really one of the worst either. It's just...okay.

Kind of weird if you think about it

Warning: Spoilers
Ricky is kind of a metaphor for school shooters huh? Bullied kid has a "plan" to deal with his bullies.

Ricky the Rat
Calicodreamin21 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Classic bullied kid gets revenge on his bullies plot with a few fun moments. However, the ending was quite abrupt and - if the creeps were following Ricky as their commander, why did they give him a cookie at the end, seemingly knowing he wasn't a creep?

I'm torn, It's Bad, but It's Hilarious because of this.

This episode is bad,

The setup is fine, it builds intrigue and isn't too ridiculous. The only thing that stood out as weird is how literally every kid bullies Ricky at school. Some of the lines at this point didn't really age well, but if you're a kid you won't even notice.

The latter half is where it gets laughably bad. Basically, the monsters are essentially confused by Ricky, and it leaves Ricky doing some weird stuff. All building to the final scene in which Ricky just lets his school to metaphorically burn cause they bullied him (what a great message!).

To top it all of, the ending is so abrupt that I absolutely confused when I was the credits roll.

I gave it a 3/10 because it's entertaining to laugh at, but a kid watching this would have no idea what just happened.

One of the worst Goosebumps episodes.
TOMNEL13 May 2009
Goosebumps is a children's' show, and because of this, it is full of cheese and camp. That camp that this show delivered is what made it so much fun oftentimes. This episode was a bit too heavy on the camp, and on the bad special effects, and a plot which lead to a dead end making this one of the most pointless Goosebumps outings.

Ricky Beamer is picked on by his ruthless and downright evil schoolmates. They all call him Ricky the Rat, and the bullies go as far as eating onions and breathing in his face as a regular punishment (It's quite bizarre, I know). Ricky tries pulling a mean prank on one of the most consistent and mean of those who pick on him, but it ends up backfiring, and his phone number is given out, with the title "Calling All Creeps!". He ends up getting calls from creeps, which turn out to be lizard like creatures. They think he's a creep, and they want to turn the entire school into creeps. The ending is stupid, and this episode is quite ridiculous.

Ricky's not a very likable character, and the school bullies(which is like everyone at this school) are unbelievably mean, including a school wide chant of "Ricky the Rat!". The ending is what ruins this episode the most, but the rest of the episode is also pretty bad. This episode isn't as utterly ridiculous as How I Got My Shrunken Head, but in entertainment value it's much lower. It's probably one of the series' worst.

My rating: * out of ****. 30 mins. TVY7

One of the best goosebumps episodes.

A bullied outcast pulls a prank on a snotty hag classmate but it backfires terribly, or so it seems at first. Finding instead, some loyal friends among some very unconventional peers, Ricky beemer is given a chance to rise from the ashes of nerd-dom and into legendary staus. This episode gets a lot of abuse for being campy, cheesy, pointless.. Sure, maybe, kinda, I guess but really ... maybe a little, but those things make it great. I can relate to Ricky, as school was much the same for me. I remember reading this book in grade school and how much I loved it, and then this episode came out and I fell in love with it. It's an extremely fun, extremely underrated episode.
