Awesome creature effects and a decent goosebumps episode. The storyline was basic but had some fun moments.

Amazing episode

I love the goosebumps TV series and this episode is one of my favourites. The characters are very realistic, especially Gretchen and Clark. The monster was cool and scary, even cute and wonderful in some parts! I loved the location too. The episode was funny, scary, suspenseful, insight into real life, everything you could ask for!

unusually good

Warning: Spoilers
most of the goosebumps episodes are bad, in some cases "so bad it's good" or else just doing the best they can with limited budget and likely limited time.

this episode sticks out by being, in comparison to most other goosebumps episodes, actually being good. much of the dialogue is realistic and not nearly as terrible as usual, and is even genuinely funny, particularly with the grandparents.

the monster as well, for being a giant rubber suit, actually looks good and sometimes is even cute as hell, like when its wildly eating the gumbo.

too many goosebumps episodes feature certain dumb tropes, like adults being absurdly bad at lying or acting blatantly suspicious, less like something for a TV show and more like a much simpler production like a puppet show or some manner of silent film piece. here, the grandparents are completely believable in their lives, with any potentially suspicious things they do or say being chalked up to them being wacky and forgetful
