Entertaining, With a few problems...
rohanumpleby7 March 2021
First of all I'm so sorry I haven't done a review in a while so I'll do 3 in 3 days, terribly sorry!

Acting

Mostly good. The whining is the most annoying thing I have to say about this episode. But the characters detray the characters very well ( considering it's a Goosebumps episode), they all did well. Slappy did the best though.

Music

The music is good and gives this episode a vibe and a good route that it needs to be well made and memorable music is key!. It's good and could be better but I'm not complaining.

Script

If they had a better script I think it would of been my favourite episode throughout its run time.

Horror

Works really well. Its refreshing and the horror is perfect for kids and teens alike. I love it!.

Many Apologise again it's my signing out again peace out

The strongest of the Slappy episodes
This is the creepiest of the Slappy episodes for several reasons It is the most suspenseful and Slappy is the creepiest in this one. Like s number of goosebumps episodes this one has an unpredictable twist at the end you probably won't see coming. I also have s favorable opinion of the music for this episode. Slappy is one of my favorite goosebumps villains so I am glad they did his character justice in this episode. It is also one of the best episodes of goosebumps episodes out there.

One of the best Goosebumps episodes ever...

Warning: Spoilers
It has been about ten years since the last time I watched this, but I certainly remember it. It began with an opening shot of Amy Cramer's house. Amy receives a new ventriloquist dummy named Slappy from her father. Strange happenings ensue, and the story escalates to a rather chilling but classic climax.

This episode is possibly the signature of the Goosebumps series. It is definitely a classic in the series. The content is actually quite creepy, especially for a young child but does not go over the top by any means.

Even though I'm an adult now, I would actually enjoy watching it again after all this time.

I am reviewing this as a 20 year old who used to watch this as a small child and still rewatches it till' this day. This is a great episode starring the all-time creepy "Slappy the Dummy". These episodes always got a little better treatment with regards to quality storytelling.

It is about this young girl who get's a new ventriloquest doll as a gift from her dad. However, this doll starts acting real strange as the days go by...he may even be alive.

This episode has the most straight forward story of all the Slappy episodes. It honestly is more of a strength than a weakness. Yes, we don't see a lot of any of the side characters, but it focuses more on the scares. It also has enough 90's goofiness that it's not so scary to the point where it's a bad thing. The acting isn't oscar-worthy, and the soundtrack is corny scary, and the pranks that Slappy does aren't life threatening.

Even though I was terrified when I was a kid of Slappy, the average kid would probably be creeped out by this episode but not to badly. I would reccomend for any parent trying to show them 90's nostalgia. I would also reccomend for anyone who hasn't seen it, Goosebumps is terrifying fun!

Welcome to Dead House was better

Warning: Spoilers
I was a big fan of Goosebumps in grade 6 to grade 9; I had all 62 original Goosebumps books and copies of all the episodes (nerdy, eh?) but this one was never one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, the dummy is funny and creepy as hell, right up there with Fats from Magic (1978) and Chucky from Child's Play (1988). The soundtrack goes good with the episode (who agrees with me that a Goosebumps background soundtrack CD should be released?) and the Canadian scenery looked great.

My problem in this particular episode was the unrealistic dialogue and the acting. Yeah yeah, I know it's only a kids' show. But in grade 6, this was one episode that never stuck with me because of the bad lines and monotone voices. The actors weren't the problem, but come on, the dummy comes to life, sits up on its own, asks the older sister if she "wants to play" and they both scream, very fake, in unison. Amy's lines were pretty pathetic. After the dummy nearly beats her dad's head in with his guitar, in the morning she says in a casual tone, "Slappy's not a doll, he's a dummy. I can't help it if he's haunted, why won't anyone believe me?" It's really too bad this episode has this issue, because its sequel episodes featuring Slappy were great, I loved Bride of the Living Dummy and NOTLD 3.

I'm not against Goosebumps, it was one of my favorite shows as a kid, but personally my favorite episode was Welcome to Dead House, it was original and creepy and has the best soundtrack in the background.
