R.L. Stine took his inspiration for the plot of the novel this is based on from Rod Serling's A Most Unusual Camera (1960). Stine is a big fan of the show and much of his work is inspired by Serling.
Re-aired February 28, 1998 to precede the episode based on the sequel novel published in between, Say Cheese and Die... Again (1998). The two-year difference between them is why the two episodes are the only related ones not to feature a common actor.
"Spidey", the mysterious man who had the camera, is played by Richard McMillan, who also played a man who owned a cursed camera in The Tale of the Curious Camera (1994). Christian Tessier also starred as a bully in both.
The theme song in this episode is played in a higher key and has a different atmosphere to it than the regular theme. The same occurs in the previous television episode It Came from Beneath the Sink (1996).
