silly, easygoing fun

"Goosebumps" episodes were hardly ever scary, even as a little kid, and many of them were often quite comical. "You Can't Scare Me" is perhaps one of the most lighthearted and humorous entries of the "Goosebumps" cannon. It makes me laugh both unintentionally and intentionally, which makes for an emotionally confusing, but highly entertaining ride. The characters are not realistic, the dialogue is corny, and the acting is kind of mixed (the girl who plays Courtney is very funny and quite competent overall), but mostly pretty bad or at least kind of mediocre. And yet, there's so much charm and energy here that it makes me too happy to really criticize it. It's not scary, and it's hardly ever even supposed to be. The main intent of "Goosebumps" is not horror or even humor-but FUN! Episodes like these are all about having a good time, and I cannot help but find their enthusiastic grinning to be extremely watchable and amusing.

And if you don't know one... you are one. Decent goosebumps thriller with good effects and a relatable storyline.

The Best Episode Ever!
Cardcaptor_Jim20 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Eddie and Hat are two boys who are sick of "Little Miss Perfect" Courtney, the teacher's pet. When she says nothing scares her, the two boys take this as a challenge. Unfortunately, Courtney isn't afraid of snakes or tarantulas. Their pranks on her backfire badly. Not giving up, the boys dare Courtney to go to the muddy creek where a mud monster apparently roams. There, all three kids find out the truth behind the legend.

Excellent in all respects, this is the quintessential episode of Goosebumps. The performances of all the kids are outstanding, with an especially funny performance by Charlotte Sullivan as Courtney. Sullivan's dialogue at the end of the episode is hilarious. It does change the book by R.L. Stine, but that's not a bad thing. Fans of this series will definitely want to re-watch this over and over.

This episode is included on the new DVD, "Return Of The Mummy".

Worst Episode Of Goosebumps So Far!
dantelaemers4 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Now I have been watching this show for quite some times. So far most of the episode are really good! There is the occasional meh like Ghost Beach and Say Cheese And Die Again, but I never truly hated a Goosebumps episode... until I watched You Can't Scare Me. This is the first Goosebumps episode I have ever hated. Now I will tell you why. 1: The pacing is awful. The first half is just Eddie and Hat trying to scare Courtney and failing. It's not even creepy, it's just a bunch of lame failed scare attempts. The second half is any better either. They decide to dress up as Mud Monsters to scare Courtney, and then a real Mud Monster comes along. I'll get to that stuff later, but now we must reach the second reason why I hate this story. 2: The ending is terrible. When the Mud Monster reaches Eddie, Hat and Courtney, you'd except something terrifying to happen. But NO. Courtney just talks the dam guy to death. Ok just kidding, he actually dried up in the sun while Courtney was explaining to him why he should stop terrorizing people. So he was basically never a threat. Also it's such an anticlimactic and unsatisfying ending. Plus, there isn't even a twist, which is weird because R. L Stine usually always has a cool twist. But anyways, that was my review of You Can't Scare Me. Definitely one of the worst in the series. It's just as bad as it's book, which I gave a ONE out of TEN because there wasn't a option for zero. Just, don't watch this one. Wouldn't recommend.
