Chester is sweet on Polly Donahue but it seems that Polly has taken a liking to a new man in town Wade Stringer. When Polly tells Chester that she only likes him as a friend it is obvious that Polly has chosen Wade as her man. Polly and Wade are seen in each others arms down by the creek sparking. But there is a secret concerning Wade. Wade is actually married to a sickly woman named Wendy.
While Chester is out hunting he comes across an Indian woman asking for help for a sick woman. When Chester goes into the old Winfield cabin he sees Wendy burning up with fever. She keeps asking for her husband and that is when Chester sees a photograph of Wade, the husband of Wendy. Just a few minutes later Wendy dies with Wade looking on from the hills. After Chester buries Wendy, Wade rides up and asks Chester not to tell Polly and confirms that him and Polly have just been married. Because of the love Chester has for Polly, he agrees not to tell Polly as long as he treats her right.
Wade is suspicious of Chester telling someone in town so when he rides in to Garden City he hires a gunman, Nace Porter, for $200 to kill Chester. While Chester is wood working in the Marshal's office, the gunman opens the door and shoots twice into Chester. Marshal Dillon is able to shoot Nace before getting Doc to mend the bullet holes in Chester.
After Chester heals he goes over to see Wade. Since the hired gunman was last seen in Garden City and the fact that Wade was in Garden City, Chester knows that Wade hired a man to kill him. This meeting of the two men will prove to be their last.
A good story and well acted. I do wish they would have spent more time on the ending because there was many unanswered questions. It just seemed too much time was spent on the action leading up to the ending and when the climax came- it happened in a flash. But overall a good watch.
