Harry Enfield regarded the interfering father-in-law character as one of his most annoying. In the 1997 book "Harry Enfield and his Humorous Chums" Harry wrote:
"Mr Don't is probably the most irritating character I've ever created. I did an advert as him for Skol lager. It was ten seconds long and when we filmed it the director told me that once the cameraman had turned the camera on, I should just do the line again and again until he told me to stop. [...] When he asked for the camera to be turned on again the cameraman said to his boss, "I'm terribly sorry, but would you mind awfully operating the camera yourself and letting me go outside for this next lot? He's so irritating I think I might punch him half-way through the take otherwise!" He was allowed to go outside, apologising profusely to me, and never returned!"
