- 2 beauties Paladin's dating stakeout his San Francisco hotel lobby, so he opts to stalk an accused murderer in Nevada instead. Paladin's dubious when he offers to trot the suspect back alive, but the town's mayor prefers him slung over a saddle. When apprehended, the suspect, just found innocent of another killing, alleges the mayor's framing him for the sheriff's murder. The mayor's black-eyed henchman Boldt (Len Lesser: Uncle Leo on "Seinfeld" (1990) itches to kill the suspect - or Paladin.—David Stevens
- Paladin heads to Silver Flat in the Nevada Territory on the request of its mayor and one of its leading businessmen, S.J. Lovett, to find Ben Tyler - the suspected killer of the town's Sheriff Daily - dead or alive. The evidence of Tyler being the killer is the lethal bullet fired being from a gun such as Tyler owns. Tyler had just been acquitted of another murder, the situation which sticks in Lovett's craw even more that he was defended by Tom Nelson, seen as an outsider to Silver Flat and thus not wise to the ways of the town and not invested into its welfare. After speaking to Nelson, Paladin agrees to bring in Tyler alive so as to sit trial as opposed to prejudging his guilt or innocence, although, due to the public drubbing he has received, Nelson does not want to defend him again. After Paladin finds Tyler, Tyler professes his innocence. Is there anything Tyler can do or say at least to prove to Paladin that he can't and won't get a fair trial in Silver Flat, and to get Nelson to defend him again? Back in Silver Flat, Paladin may be able to find some evidence of his own as to the nature of Daily's murder and thus the truth or not of Tyler's claims.—Huggo
