The actor, Kevin Smith, who plays Hercules' god half-brother Ares, plays Hercules' human half-brother Iphicles elsewhere in the series. In the first season of "Hercules", Ares possessed other people's bodies or was depicted in spirit form like Hera. Smith's Ares finally first appeared in Xena: Warrior Princess (1995).
At 2:44 Hemnor says "A doe." Iolaus asks "A deer?". Hercules says "A female deer". In the Sound of Music, the song Do-Re-Mi includes the lyric "Doe, a deer, a female deer".
This is the first episode in which Hercules fights while on horseback.
There are different accounts of the Golden Hind which do agree on core points. The hind was all deer, with no anthropomorphism; it was supernaturally fast; it was sacred to Artemis; catching it was Hercules' third labor; Herc ultimately returned it to Artemis. The name Golden Hind is also famous in England's Elizabethan history as Admiral Sir Francis Drake's flagship.
