Ted refers to getting a part in a new soap opera. Coronation Street (1960) started the following year.
Its plausible that the Elvis Impersonator character was dropped after the pilot episode, within the story universe, as he moved onto another Maplin Camp on the circuit, or was dropped as his act was bad for the Camp. More likely is that the real reason may have been that the production team decided that featuring his performances throughout the series would have broken the comedic energy running within each story, and/or caused a hassle organising the relevant Music Rights for what his character would perform. The character was probably not considered to a prime part of the cast ensemble anyway.
This episode is titled Hey Diddle, Diddle.
This Pilot episode originally ran at 40 minutes. Some repeat broadcasts have edited it down to a more standard half-hour format.
This episode takes place in 1959.
