- TriviaJudy Garland's second and last hosting Hollywood Palace assignment. After opening the variety musical opening segment, performing "What the World Needs Now is Love, Sweet Love" - Judy had problems learning new song material, and the key melody musical shift harmonically posed vocal difficulty for Judy. She complained during Thursday/Friday musical rehearsals during each key shift transition! Judy had been forced to learn the new song material by her fiancé Mark - insisting that she needed to experiment with a new contemporary musical hit song, to add the musical material to her performance catalogue. During the video taped dress rehearsal performance, Judy opened the show, with a slight shift key problem during the musical number. Judy performed the complete dress rehearsal video taped dress rehearsal show; but, not performing the planned Van Johnson duet - performing - repeating - she and Fred Astaire's "Easter Parade" Clown Tramp number. This number was to be staged at the end of the second "air-show-video-taping" staging at the evenings taping schedule. The reason for this was because of the wardrobe and facial make-up Judy would require to perform the number. When the air show opening began, Judy flubbed the song's key shift! Judy stomped off the stage - fleeing into the (original Jerry Lewis) host main off-left stage floor dressing room. The air show resumed after the producers Nick Vanoff and Bill Harbach had failed to coax and beg Judy to return on stage to continue her show. Van Johnson took over hosting Judy's show introducing the variety show guests. After the end of the air-show video tape conclusion, the audience was informed that one production number was to be performed. After three hours, past midnight, the producers had implored, begged, cajoled Judy to perform her Tramp number. Audience had lost patience and had left the theatre. The entire stage crew, orchestra performers, and the studio video technical staff remained - waiting! Finally, on Sunday morning at 01:45 A.M. - Judy joined Van Johnson to perform her final Hollywood Palace performance. By a genius editing magic, the air show was compiled from the dress rehearsal performance combined with the air-show material to deliver a seem less happy hour of magical entertainment.
