John Dingwall was the joint winner of the Australian Writers Guild's "Awgie" award in 1969 for this episode. He shared the award with Tony Morphett for the episode A Touch of DFP (1970).
Many veteran actors were engaged for the episode, which was written as a comedy but intended as a social commentary on the plight of pensioners. John Dingwall's script drew on his own experiences of working with pensioners before he joined Crawford Productions.
