- Daniel befriends a dying retired judge, but has difficulty giving him spiritual comfort after the judge confesses to a painful secret. After 17 years of silence between Ruby and Bonita Vasquez, Daniel gets them to start speaking to each other again, but mother and daughter end up constantly fighting. Alex and Molly hatch a plan to bring back to Hope Island the man who broke both Ruby and Bonita's hearts to get them to stop fighting.—Emmanuel Valerio
- Bonita and Ruby's seventeen year feud in which they have not spoken to each other was over a man, Calvin Douglas, a lighthouse repairman from the mainland who wooed both when he did some work on the island. He left never to return and both women blamed the other. When each woman learns through others that each is no longer angry with the other, they begin speaking to each other. However, they communicated better when they didn't speak as they are now always bickering. The islanders have to figure a way for them not to speak to each other again. Nub's idea: bring Calvin Douglas back to the island. Douglas does return and tells the story of his relationship with the Vasquez women. Meanwhile, Daniel, a non-mariner prone to seasickness, wants Alex to teach him how to drive a boat since he has to go visit retired Judge Patrick Bradley whose house is only accessible by boat. Ailing in health and deemed to be in his final days, Judge Bradley doesn't really want Daniel to visit, at least he says not for spiritual reasons. But the Judge and Daniel's visits do more good for each other than they originally envisioned. And Brian is marketing the island as a boxing training camp, the island once the training ground of heavyweight boxer James Braddock. As usual, Brian is stretching the truth in his advertising.—Huggo
