George Schlatter and Ed Friendly, producers of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (1967), envisioned a night of cross-promotion by having several Laugh-In regulars appear on I Dream of Jeannie, followed by Barbara Eden appearing in character as Jeannie on Laugh-In that same night. The plot of this episode is just that: Jeannie is approached by Laugh-In producer Schlatter and three regulars (Judy Carne, Arte Johnson, Gary Owens) and asked to appear on Laugh-In. While it may appear that this episode is one of those that ends without a resolution to the plot, it was in fact concluded on the Laugh-In show following the original broadcast the same night, with Barbara Eden appearing as Jeannie.
Larry Hagman (Major Anthony Nelson) and Susan Howard (Salesgirl) would both later star in Dallas (1978). They played J.R. Ewing and Donna Culver Krebbs respectively.
The working title for this story (production #4229) was 'Sock It to Me, Jeannie', but the network found it too suggestive.
The footage of the street view of the hotel building (which appears twice) where everyone is staying in Hollywood, is reused from three episodes earlier ( Invisible House for Sale (1969) ) where it was the apartment building where Jeannie moved her and Tony to after she sold Tony's house.
Judy Carne who plays herself here, previously played Dr. Bellows' niece Sheila in Is There an Extra Jeannie in the House? (1966).
