The sound effect used for the alarm by the Invaders is the same as from the Martian war machines in George Pal's "The War of the Worlds" (1953).
There is a 60 minute version available to see online. This version includes the only time the viewers see where David Vincent works.
Although Dominic Frontiere is credited with the score, aside from the closing theme music, there is very little original scoring. Pre-existing Frontiere music is "tracked" from other TV shows, including "Stoney Burke," "The Outer Limits," "12 O'clock High" and a failed pilot called "Stryker: Fanfare for a Death Scene."
The series opens with the sighting of the aliens and the report to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office. Santa Barbara County is about 100 miles north of Los Angeles and in 1967 had a population around 200,000. The population estimate in the year 2018 is 446,527.
