- Douglas Brackman, Jr.: First up, Cheryl Brennen vs. Worldwide Studios.
- Alex DePalma: We're representing Cheryl Brennen?
- Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb: Down, boy. We're representing the studio Ms. Brennan is suing.
- Tommy Mullaney: Oh, this is about her silicone implants.
- Alex DePalma: Implants?
- Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb: She claims her studio forced her to get them.
- Ann Kelsey: Oh, what, they put her gun to her head?
- Jonathan Rollins: Our side's gonna have a hard time showing liability.
- Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb: Even so, I wish we had settled, since the opposing counsel is one David McCoy.
- Stuart Markowitz: He's a heavyweight.
- Jonathan Rollins: Yes.
- Grace Van Owen: McCoy is good.
- Tommy Mullaney: How aggressive can you get against him, without alienating your jury?
- Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb: Looks like I'm gonna find out.
- Douglas Brackman, Jr.: Next up, McConnell vs. Devries.
- Arnie Becker: It's history. The judge decided that my septuagenarian bride needed her daughter as a conservator.
- Leland McKenzie: Why didn't her new husband qualify?
- Arnie Becker: Because we were ambushed. I'd like to come talk to you about it privately.
- Leland McKenzie: Yeah, please do.
- Douglas Brackman, Jr.: And last on the agenda, Jonathan has an announcement.
- Jonathan Rollins: Some of you already know this, but I've been asked to serve out Art Middleman's term on the city council.
- Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb: Wow!
- Ann Kelsey: What an honor.
- Alex DePalma: Congratulations.
- Jonathan Rollins: Yeah, it's a 5-month appointment. I'm not considering running for a seat.
- A.D.A. Zoey Clemmons: My best offer's manslaughter with a maximum sentence of 10 years.
- Nick Moats: We're not interested.
- A.D.A. Zoey Clemmons: If your client goes down on murder one, he's looking at life without parole.
- Walter Phelps: I didn't do it.
- A.D.A. Zoey Clemmons: I can tie you to the weapon and the inmate that you killed.
- Nick Moats: Your whole case is circumstantial. You wouldn't be plea bargaining if you thought you could prove first-degree murder.
- A.D.A. Zoey Clemmons: When the jury looks at Walter, they're gonna see a convict who's already doing a long stretch behind bars. You think they're gonna be predisposed to find him innocent? You're a fool not to take this deal.
- Nick Moats: My client is scheduled for parole in 2 months. He's not gonna serve another minute in prison for something he didn't do.
- [Looking up time]
- Nick Moats: We're due in court.
- A.D.A. Zoey Clemmons: I know the judge feels you're qualified to handle this case, but a murder trial is a lot different than writing writs of juggling bogus appeals for your other pals in prison.
- [Knocking the door to get the guard]
- Nick Moats: I've sat in my cell and read law books 18 hours a day for the past 11 years.
- [the guard escorted Phelps out of the door]
- Nick Moats: I may not be a lawyer, but I plan to win this case.
- [Clemmons will be seeing Moats in court. The guards takes Nick Moats to the courtroom with a handcuffs]
- Arnie Becker: He's already declining like a politician.
- Grace Van Owen: Lost him.
- Stuart Markowitz: You and Mario Cuomo.
- Jonathan Rollins: Yeah. In any case, I'll be on leave of absence beginning today.
- Douglas Brackman, Jr.: We're very proud of your well-deserved recognition, Jonathan. And rest assured, McKenzie Brackman won't expect any special favors from city hall.
- [Overlapping chatter]
- Douglas Brackman, Jr.: We're adjourned.
- Stuart Markowitz: Look, I have a few parking tickets I wanna talk to you about.
- Jonathan Rollins: Oh, okay, Stuart.
- Leland McKenzie: This is about McConnell case.
- Arnie Becker: Actually, it's about more than that. During the hearings, a document, a letter came into my possession. Now, the only ones who knew about it, other than Marian McConnell and her husband, were Gwen and I. Somehow the other side got wind of it, laid a subpoena on us, end of case.
- Leland McKenzie: Do you have any idea how they discovered its existence?
- Arnie Becker: Yeah. I think Frank Kittredge told them.
- Leland McKenzie: What?
- Leland McKenzie: He and Gwen have been seeing each other. First she denied having told him anything, now she admits she did. She thinks he's blameless. I don't.
- Leland McKenzie: I understand that you just inexplicably lost a case. But to assume that Kittredge is responsible-- What possible motive could he have?
- Arnie Becker: I don't know. But I want you to bounce his ass right out of here.
- Leland McKenzie: Well, it's not as simple as that. Jonathan has just handed off a portion of his clients to Frank. He's taken on a significant amount of our client overflow.
- Arnie Becker: The bastard manipulated Gwen. He cost me my case, exposed us to malpractice. You're talking financial investments?
- Leland McKenzie: Now, hold on. If you can prove this, not only will I insist that Susan Bloom bounce him out of here, I'll happily see to it that he's disbarred. But right now, do you have any evidence to back up your accusation?
- Arnie Becker: I'll get it.
- Leland McKenzie: Fine! Until then, I suggest you remember it's only that, an accusation.
- [Arnie leaves the office and head out that door]
