Toward the end of the prior episode (S.7, Ep.9), three parties make plans to spend the night in Big Sur before leaving the office. J. Rollins is left in the office to sign for a package delivered for Gwen (she had been receiving anonymous packages, including a bloody heart, from a stalker). Rollins then rushes to the bathroom just before the package pops open and starts emitting thick gray smoke, triggering the overhead alarm.
At the start of this episode, the conference table is sticky as if freshly varnished, but NO ONE, including Rollins, makes any reference to Big Sur OR the "gas bomb package".
