The title refers to the 1912 song "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" with lyrics by Chauncey Olcott and George Graff and music by Ernest Ball, for Olcott's production of "The Isle O' Dreams" and Olcott sang the song in the show. The most famous recording was made by tenor John McCormack during World War I.
