James Gregory guest stars in this Laramie story about an ex-con who is a degenerate gambler now working for chump change at the livery stable. Nobody
has much use for him including Slim Sherman and Jess Harper. But he really
does want to go straight. Yet his old gang headed by Michael Forest wants him
in on a bank job.
But the expected payroll does not come through and it's the gang that gets away with only some loose cash. They think that Gregory copped it all and shoot him in pursuit.
He's badly wounded and lucky it's Spring Byington driving a buckboard that who finds him on the road. In the course of her time on Laramie, Byington put a lot of good use her Civil War nurse training and she sends Dennis Holmes for the doctor.
Of course when John Smith and Jess Harper arrive home they aren't thrilled with Gregory's presence. Nevertheless they try to check out his story and that's what the rest of the story is about.
Gregory gives a nice performance as a beaten and tired man. Toward the end he has a nice renewal scene with his estranged daughter Jacqueline Scott.
Gregory's performance and Spring Byington's nursing make this a worthwhile Laramie episode.
